Inštitut za biomedicinske vede je bil ustanovljen kot prva raziskovalna enota Medicinske fakultete Univerze v Mariboru. Od ustanovitve leta 2005 aktivno združuje klinične in predklinične strokovnjake doma in v tujini z namenom razvijanja novih terapevtskih, diagnostičnih in drugih tehnologij ter premikanja meja raziskovanja tako na fakulteti kot v širši regiji.
